Gas prices have been on the rise for the past year but have recently exploded due to Russia attacking Ukrain about 3 weeks ago on February 24. With the loosening of COVID restrictions gas prices began rising and accelerated when Russia declared war on Ukraine. Prices are up over a dollar since this time last year. The local ARCO gas station at the border of Upland/Claremont on Foothill had a price for regular unleaded gas at $5.47 a gallon. Some more expensive gas stations have the same type of gas at $6.95 a gallon.
The national average for a regular gallon of gas is now $4.25, according to AAA. On Tuesday, the cost was $4.17, breaking the July 2008 record of $4.11, which would be around $5.25 today when adjusted for inflation.
