The beehive has a bit of a story. The beehive was given to me by my college roomate. He had collected the beehive from a friend who had the bees take over a birdhouse at his home. During the beehive stay at my old roomates home he was stung a couple times and end up having his arm swell. At that time he asked if I would take care of the hive at my home, which I have , until recently. At the end of March we had a party planned at our home that would involve some guests spending several nights at our home. Two of the people were known to be highly elergic to bee stings, in short, we needed to get rid of the hive. Bring in Lourdes, a friend, who replied to a FB request to whomever would like a beehive, it would be delivered to the home. Lucky for me, she lives in the city in which I live and the beehive was dropped off.
Several weeks had passed when I received a call from Lourdes saying the bees were gone. She indicated she and her husband had taken a trip and upon the return noticed that the bee activity was near zero. I came over on Saturday and we checked into the hive and noticed that all of the honey was intact. We set out taking the hive apart, transferring the brooding combs into a smaller hive box she had. We then squeezed the remaining portion of the combs and removed over 60 ounces of honey!
